Here are some facts about FRIENDSTER:

Friendster was founded in 2002 by Jonathan Abrams in Mountain View, California. Abrams is a computer programmer. Its official launched date was March 22, 2002. It was funded with $12 million investment in 2003 by Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers, Benchmark Capital, and private investors originally. Google offered $30 million buyout in Friendster management but it was declined. It is backed by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, IDG Ventures, DAG Ventures and individual investors.

Friendster is a social networking website which allows users to contact other members, maintain contact with them and share online media and content. It is also a way for dating, discovering new events or hobbies, and share messages, photos comments and videos through their profiles with their distinctive accounts created online. In Sydney, Australia is where the headquarters of Friendster is found.

Globally, Friendster has over 90 million users and unique visitors of over 61 million. Based on web traffic, it belongs to the top 100 global website receiving approximately 19 billion page reviews a month.

There are different kinds of plants. And there are plants with very unique features. A Mimosa Pudica possesses a very unique characteristic. It is often and popularly called “makahiya” in the Philippines taken from its name Pudica which means “shy”.

Are you wondering why a Mimosa Pudica folds its leaves when touched or shaken? Well, it is scientifically explained that this happens when the leaves lose turgor pressure. The force that is applied into the cell wall by water and other cell contents is called the turgor pressure. This pressure enables the plant to stay upright. A sagging plant is a result when chemicals in the plant force the water to leave the cell that happnes when it is disturbed by a stimulus. This movement of the plant is called seismonastic movements. The re-opening and sunrise of the leaves is termed as thigmonasty movement.

The Walt Disney Company was co-founded by Walter Elias”Walt” Disney. He was born on December 5, 1901. Walt Disney is the co-founder of the company with his brother Roy O. Disney. He was a multiple Academy award-winning film producer, entertainer, voice actor, animator, director, screenwriter philanthropist, entrepreneur and an international icon. He became one of the best-known motion picture producers in the world when he co-founded Walt Disney Productions and became influential during the twentieth century in the field of entertainment.

He won prestigious awards including fifty-nine Academy Award nominations and twenty-six on Oscars and seven Emmy Awards. He himself with his staff created famous fictional characters like Mickey Mouse. Walt Disney died on December 15, 1966 at the age of 65 because of lung cancer.

The world’s tallest man is Robert Pershing Wadlow. He was recorded the tallest human being. It was due to an overactive pituitary gland why he grew up to 8’ 11” (272 cm) in height and 222.26 kg (490 pounds) in weight before his death at the age of 22.

He was born on February 22, 1918 in Allton, Illinois. He became the world’s tallest Boy Scout at the age of 22 with the height of 7’ 4” (224 cm).

At 18, his shoe size is 37 costing $100.00 a pair and he rose up to 8’4” (254cm) and weighed 177 kg. (390 lbs).

He travelled with his father around USA for a promotional tour with International Shoe Company where he signed a contract at the age of 20 and in exchange, he received free shoes. He enrolled in Shurtleff College in 1936 pursuing law.

Wadlow was taken ill on July 4, 1940 with a faulty brace that had caused bad infection and a blister in Manistree, Michigan. He was treated with emergency surgery and blood transfusions but his fever got worse. He died on Jult 15, 1940 in his sleep and he was buried in Alton July 19.
